Rock Tumbling Excitement!

There is a unique children's' toy that doesn't exactly scream excitement. However it is most intriguing when one considers how it can hold more value than just itself. Yes its a ROCK TUMBLER! The Smithsonian Institute has created a learning toy called a "rock tumbler" to help people learn about the wonderful world of rocks. It's somewhat loud, it takes seemingly forever and it doesn't beep, whistle, light up , speak and isn't remote controlled. All it does is turn around and around and around. As boring as it may seem, the results are nothing less than astounding. First, you put rocks, water and grit into a little barrel, close the lid and place it on the little stand that holds a simplistic motor that tumbles the barrel of rocks. It tumbles for several days using two different grades of grit and finally a polish . Unadorned rocks go in and beautiful polished rocks come out. Mind you they are still rocks. But with the course edges removed and its surface smoothed and polished, their true perfection is revealed.
Wouldn't it be nice if the Smithsonian could come up with a human tumbler?
We could all use a few days in a human tumbler! The grinding and honing of course, hard edges into a glittery polished shine would improve anyone. If only we could just withstand the grit stage of tumbling.
Perhaps our poor manners , indiscretion and bad habits would transform into an illuminated exterior that would allow others to see the real beauty we all have underneath ! Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could go in like we are and come out the person we are truly meant to be? Some people probably would do well to spend several weeks in the barrel! Perhaps that’s because their exterior is so scratched and coarse or maybe their hearts are hardened ? Often even if we want to, it is difficult to see the beautiful inner person because their exterior conceals the true person .
We are all wonderfully and beautifully made! Maybe the real truth is, every one has their own personal rock tumbler. Maybe its different for each of us? I am utterly convinced that my rock tumbler has to be chocolate!!! Following the rock tumblers example, I have vowed to slowly, methodically eat M&Ms until I shine! Thanks Smithsonian, for creating one of the coolest toys know to humankind and for reminding us that underneath all our scratchy course exteriors there is a beautiful creation waiting to be explored and seen!
